Nanette Lee wins STANZ award

The inaugural Kay Memmott Award was presented to Nanette Lee at ConSTANZ in October.

Nanette Lee (left) is a science technician at Hillcrest High School in Hamilton.

She is the first recipient of the Kay Memmott Award for Excellence.

The award has been created by the STANZ (Inc.) National Executive to celebrate science technicians who do amazing things for their peers.

Nanette began her career as an assistant technician at Hillcrest High School in 1991 and took over the technician role in 1994.

Comments made about Nanette are all positive. She is a technician who always ‘goes the extra mile’, runs the science department like a well-oiled machine, and has an amazing ability to organize meetings at short notice. She is also a person who is not easily put off.

Nanette was presented with her award by Kay Memmott at the science technicians’ biennial conference, ConSTANZ, held in Rotorua in October. The award was sponsored by Electroflash.

You can read more about Kay Memmott’s career as a science technician here on New Zealand Science Teacher.
